In a significant move for India’s dental healthcare sector, the Himachal Pradesh Government has announced the establishment of a state-of-the-art Dental Health Research Centre in Hamirpur with an estimated investment of ₹300 crore.

The announcement was made by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu while addressing the 4th Annual Conference of the Himachal Pradesh State Chapter of the Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons of India (AOMSI).

The proposed Dental Health Research Centre is expected to become a hub for advanced clinical care, dental innovation, and research. Dental College Shimla to be Renamed
As part of the announcement, the Chief Minister also stated that the Government Dental College, Shimla, will be renamed Rajiv Gandhi Dental College, Shimla.
The decision forms part of the state’s broader initiative to strengthen dental education and enhance institutional infrastructure.
Strengthening Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
Speaking at the AOMSI conference, the Chief Minister acknowledged the vital role of oral and maxillofacial surgeons in managing facial trauma, oral cancers, congenital deformities, jaw disorders, and complex reconstructive procedures.
He emphasized that these specialists not only restore oral function but also improve facial aesthetics, patient confidence, and overall quality of life.
